Daden Newsletter April 2021

 Our April Newsletter is out. In this issue:

• A Virtual Experience Design Space (VEDS) -  VEDS is a new publicly and freely available space we've created in Mozilla Hubs for you and us to use to help think through and collaborate on the design decisions associated with a 3D virtual experience - whilst being inside a 3D/VR virtual world!

• Wonderland  - Having looked at the range of SocialVR spaces out there we're now looking at WebXR authoring tools - this issue we take Wonderland out for a test-drive.

• Daden Hub - Daden Hub is effectively our virtual office in MozillaHubs - somewhere for us to meet clients and show them what Hubs can do - and feel free to check it out yourself. We've also linked it to (and from) a virtual onboarding experience we've built for Hubs to act as a walk-through tutorial on how to use Hubs.

• Plus some interesting papers that caught our eye on AI, chatbots and knowledge graphs (and which are coming from a similar to our own R&D); and links to three interviews/panel sessions that David has given over the last few months on chatbots and Virtual Humans.

Jan 2021 Newsletter Out

 

The January 2021 edition of our newsletter is out. In this issue:

• Using VR for nurse training -  A case-study of our work at Bournemouth University in developing a 3D and VR simulation to help student nurses learn how to manage a diabetic patient on the ward and cope with a related emergency 

• VR in the Training Mix  - How immersive 3D and VR stack up against more traditional approaches when it comes to addressing the needs of the "3 fidelities" of skills training

• SocialVR Worlds - Our latest experiences inside the emerging Social Virtual Worlds such as AltSpaceVR and MozillaHubs - and what potential they might have for more serious use

Daden Newsletter - October 2020

 

In this latest issue of the Daden Newsletter we cover:

• COVID19 and 3D Immersive Learning (still!) -  With COVID19 showing no signs of abating delivering corporate training and academic syllabuses out into 2021 remains challenging to say the least. Where do "traditional" approaches such as Zoom, eLearning and video fall short, what issues does a VR route face, and how can 2D/3D immersive learning improve the mix?
• WebXR - With Facebook introducing stricter account and content controls on Oculus headsets WebXR offers a way to deliver VR content to VR headsets without needing to download anything. The same approach can also deliver 2D/3D content to an ordinary web browser. A promising way forward?
• Plus snippets of other things we've been up to in the last 6 months - like starting work on a virtual hospital ward and experimenting with VR in the garden!

Daden Newsletter - June 2020

• COVID19 and 3D Immersive Learning -  With corporate training and academic syllabuses and delivery being revised to cope with the challenges of social distancing stretching out until mid 2021 at least, to what extent will trainers and educators look again at the potential of 3D immersive learning and virtual reality - or will they fallback on the more "traditional" approaches of VLEs and Zoom?

• Virtual Conferences - It's not just in virtual training and learning that immersive 3D can help - several organisations are now using immersive 3D conference and meeting environments to give participants more sense of "being there" and encouraging more serendipitous networking than yet another Zoom webinar. April 16 Newsletter: FieldscapesVR and Datascape beta released

In this latest issue of the Daden Newsletter we are proud to announce: 

• The release of a demo of FieldscapesVR onto the Android Play Store. You can use this with or without a Google Cardboard VR headset to have a virtual walk (or fly) through Carding Mill Valley - a site used by lots of schools for Geography field trips and using an accurate model of the whole 2km x 2km area. Just search "fieldscapes" on Android Play Store to find it, and it's FREE! 
• The launch of the Beta of Datascape2XL, our 2nd generation 3D immersive data visualisation platform. Sign up for the beta invite list now!

We also have: 

• A call for participation in a survey on photosphere virtual reality apps, to both provide us with some market insight but also for a course project for one of our staff. Take the survey today! We also provide some background to our first PhotospheresVR project at iCentrum.

Latest Newsletter out - VR and Fieldscapes

Our February 2016 Newsletter is out. In this latest issue of the Daden Newsletter we look at:

• What is going on behind the hype of virtual reality, with a neat 2x2 matrix which we think nicely summarises what the current options are through 2016, and probably beyond.
• Fieldscapes - the new name for our InnovateUK funded Virtual Field Trips Phase 2 project, as part of their Design for Impact programme. We're now working closely with the Field Studies Council and the schools using their Preston Montford field studies centre in order to ensure that Fieldscapes is designed to meet the needs of teachers and pupils.

We also provide an update on the development of our 2nd Generation Datascape 3D immersive data visualisation application, with some sneak-peak screenshots, and the planned beta and live release dates.
